Invalid characters

Whenever I run XMLTVGUI (3.08.02W) the resulting XML file contains pairs of question marks (??) wherever an accented character (and some instances of apostrophe) should appear.
Am I missing something, or is this the expected result ?

Is a filter possible to replace an accented letter with it's 'normal' counterpart, it would be an improvement on ?? appearing throughout the data.

there are errors in the radiotimes data
