Invalid characters in Radio Times Five US

Post by thepfy »

Not a problem with the program but just a warning to others

I used XMLTV GUI to download the latest EPG from Radio Times to use in webscheduler but the generated XML wouldn't load :(

After doing some analysis there were some invalid characters in the FiveUS listings. Once I'd edited those out it worked fine.

Thanks for that. What are the invalid characters?

And Birty, any chance the Grabber could replace these characters? Thanks! :D

Sorry, found it, hex b so ascii 11 (Home/VT), one occurrence in mine.

Edit: make that two occurrences... :?

I noticed that too.

If it's any help, one of the dodgy characters seems to come just before the phrase "Laughably bad" in the Five US listing for the movie "Darkness Falls" on 2 November. It also seems to be related to the {ital} tags in the Five US descriptions.

The {ital} stuff really has no effect, but you're right, it's that listing and one other that has an ascii 11 character in it. D'Oh! It's going to mess things up again today when my grabber runs... :x

I didn't mean that the {ital} tags were causing the problem, just that they seemed to be near the places where the rogue ascii 11 characters were found.
